Modular
Update
Mr. Kalisz updated the Board on the issues
related to the modular classrooms. Schiavi has corrected any of the issues related to ramps
and access. An engineer has completed
the review of the modulars and is recommending two items to meet the requirements
from the Code Enforcement Office. The
first issue is to place 4 new hurricane tie downs per unit. The engineer will provide an approved plan,
and Schiavi will complete the work. The second issue is to provide a frost free
foundation. The plan is to provide
metal I-beams attached the undercarriage of the modular. These I-beams would rest on concrete to
support the modular and to limit settling.
The District will be responsible for the payment of this part of the
plan. We will discuss with Schiavi a sharing of the cost. We should know the cost, a contractor, and
a timeline in the next week. Mr.
Kalisz will be able to report on this issue at the Board meeting.
Landscaping
Update
Mr. Robbins reviewed the plan for the
landscaping at the High School. He
proposes having CTE
Drafting and Horticulture classes develop a plot plan to show what is
currently in place at the School. The
plan would be used to show the new landscaping that could be installed. The new landscaping would include a row of
shorter Rhododendrons near the schools, a row of spring flowering semi-dwarf
tress a little farther from the school.
This is to match the plants there were in place, and were past their
prime. We would remove two flowering
apple trees, two cedar trees, and roots this Fall. The plan would come to the Building
Committee in the Winter, and planting to begin May 1st.
Summer
Project Update
Mr. Kalisz discussed some
of the 56 projects that were completed this summer. The Honeywell projects at Maple and School
Street are nearly complete,
with the conversion from steam heat to hot water heat. The High School heating tests are completed
and the new air conditioning in the three upstairs classrooms at the Tech Center is
complete. The replacement air
conditioning for the computer labs at the Middle School should be completed
this weekend. Honeywell has provided
temporary air conditioning units for the last two weeks.
Mr. Callaghan moved, second by Mr. Watson, to
adjourn the meeting at 6:38
p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
