Improvement Goals
|
1. Each school will continue
developing essential outcomes in the core content areas, based on Grade
Level Expectations, Des Cartes, and District Curriculum Frameworks, common
assessments based on these outcomes, and a systemic approach to support
students that do not initially meet these standards.

2. Each school will develop
instructional strategies to implement in the classroom to teach students
about motivation, the value of effort, and increase student engagement
in the learning process.
|
3. Each school will develop
and implement strategies to create an emotionally and physically safe
learning environment, including an emphasis on embracing diversity, eliminating
racial harassment and bullying behavior.

4. Each Principal will report
to the Superintendent and the Instruction Committee on an annual basis,
an improvement plan to include:
• Report on the school goals
• Report the baseline data in reading, language arts and math
• Report the number of students and percentage of students on
grade level in third grade and at all other grade levels
• Report steps implemented to reach goal
• Report the growth of students from Fall to Spring assessments
• Interpretation of data (What does the data tell us)
• Report on other assessments and or grade level data (including
DIBELS)
• Action Plans (proposed) to include increased and redirected
resources for budget purposes
• The Middle School and High School shall report on accreditation
issues
• Each school will provide a School Portfolio as part of this
process that will include the above mentioned items.

Staff Development Objectives |
District Objectives will be completed and provided to the staff members by August of each school year.
1. By June of 2009, all staff members in Phase II of the evaluation process will have participated in a PEG for
professional development and related to school or district goals.
2. By June of 2009, all staff members will continue work on implementing common essential outcomes
(competencies at the High School level), common grade level assessments and a systematic approach for
students working below the standards.
3. By October of 2008, all staff members will have participated in training related to sexual and racial harassment,
bullying, gender equity, 504 compliance, injury prevention in the workplace and/or safety procedures.

Curriculum Objectives |
| 1. By June 2008, the district will continue to focus instruction in reading
improvement and the goal of having 90% of all students read on grade level. |
| 2. By June of 2008, the district will have implemented a standards based
math program K-8, with emphasis on professional development, parent communication.
Each Math teacher, K-8, as part of their professional development, will
need to immerse themselves in the change process for the standards based
math program. |
Instructional Requirements |
| 1. Each teacher in grades K-12 will show evidence of using the data to
adjust instructional practices to meet the needs of all students. |
| 2. By June of 2008, the district will have continued implementing a new
standards based math program K-8, with emphasis on professional development
and parent communication. Each teacher, K-8 as part of their professional
development, will need to immerse themselves in the standards based math
program |
| 3. By September of 2007, each teacher will have provided an approved grading
policy and procedure to students and parents. This policy will follow the
guidelines provided by the district during the summer of 2004. |
| 4. Each school will continue the interventions required to align curriculum
with the New Hampshire Frameworks and Des Cartes, adjusted instructional
strategies based on the Frameworks and Grade Level Expectations (GLE’s),
District Curriculum and NHEIAP results. |
| 5. Each school will include in all instructional areas, open-response
questions as a component of student assessments. Both regular and special
education teachers will show evidence of instructing students in how to
answer open-response questions. Staff members should refer to the NECAP
Common Released Items for sample open- response questions and answers. |
| 6. Each teacher in grades K-12 will show evidence that both regular and
special education students complete the required grade level pieces of writing
as outlined in the Individual Student Writing Folder. Scoring rubrics and
revised pieces will be attached to the writing prompts. |
| 7. Each teacher in grades K-6 will use the adopted reading series. Teachers
in grades 7 and 8 will use the adopted reading series, Middle Level Literature
by D.C. Heath. Each teacher in grades K-6 will administer the Integrated
Theme Tests. Teachers will show evidence of using the data to adjust instructional
practices to meet the needs of students. Other materials may be used to
supplement, but not supplant the adopted series. |
| 8. Each teacher in grades K-5 will use the adopted social studies series
by Harcourt Brace. Other materials may be used to supplement, but not supplant
the adopted series. |
| 9. Each Teacher in Grades K-8 will use the new grade level Science units
document as a guideline for planning Science. The Scott Foresman and Glencoe
texts as well as Foss and Charlesbridge Science Kits will be used as the
adopted Science materials. |
| 10. Each teacher in grades K-6 will use the adopted math series, Everday
Math, by SRA/McGraw Hill. Math teachers in grades 7-8 will use the adopted
math series, MathScape: Seeing and Thinking Mathematically by Glencoe, McGraw
Hill. All Math teachers will follow the pacing guides provided for each
level. |
| 11. Each teacher in grades K-5 will use the adopted handwriting program,
Handwriting Without Tears by Jan Z. Olsen, OTR.
