Introduction
The Mission of the Rochester School Department is to ensure quality educational
experiences.
District Education Improvement Plan
We have developed, with broad community support (parents, teachers, administrators,
School Board members, support staff, community members, business members), a mission
statement, belief statements, and objectives. The objectives were reviewed and
the plan updated in 1994 and continually improved since 1994. The district changed
to a continual improvement model during the 1995 school year. The District Educational
Improvement process has combined the strategic planning model and the continual
improvement model. The DEIP committee continues to meet and plan the district’s
improvement process. The district is continuing to focus on instructional improvement,
assessment, and professional development. The DEIP includes all elements of the
local education improvement plan. The DEIP committee has three sub-committees:
Standards, Assessment, and Professional Development. The committees represent
all stakeholders in the district with ongoing recruitment of community members
and staff members. Each sub-committee may need additional members to complete
their task. New members are recruited for these sub-committees, as they are needed
to complete the tasks. The Standards committee has defined the educational standards
that we set for our students. The standards are derived from the New Hampshire
Education Improvement and Assessment Program. The curriculum frameworks are the
standards for all New Hampshire schools and the Rochester School Department has
adopted these frameworks as its curriculum base. The Assessment Committee will
plan for the monitoring and assessment of the student standards developed by the
Standards Committee. The Professional Development Committee provides support and
staff development to implement the District Education Improvement Plan. The committee
works in conjunction with District Staff Development Committee. The DEIP is the
plan the district uses to advance all students toward higher levels of achievement.
The DEIP also allows, to the extent possible, all grant managers to focus their
resources on implementation of the district objectives. The managers utilize the
planning and objectives provided by the DEIP to complete their grant writing processes.
