POLICY ON LAB FEES
"RSA 189:16: Textbooks and Supplies. They (the school committee) shall purchase, at the expense of the city or town in which the district is situated, textbooks and other supplies required for use in the public schools; an shall see such books at cost to pupils of such schools free of charge, subject to such regulations for their care and custody as the board may prescribe; and shall sell such books at cost to pupils of the school wishing to purchase them for their own use."
1. Students in an elective class in which projects may be made and taken home can be required to pay the cost of materials, (i.e., jewelry, ceramics, photography, and vocational projects). Ordinarily, the cost of providing supplies to these courses is prohibitive as compared to a regular required course.
2. Students must be informed, prior to registering for these electives, of the probable cost of materials and must indicate a willingness and ability to pay.
3. Cost to the individual student will be determined by the cost of materials for the project.
4. No profit shall accrue to the school or teacher from the sale of materials.
5. Funds will be deposited with the school treasurer in an earmarked account.
