Communicable Diseases

The following policy is adopted to carry out the provision of RSA 200:38 and RSA 200:39.

Communicable disease will be managed in accordance with the recommendations of the New Hampshire Bureau of Communicable Disease.

Although not limited to these communicable conditions, these are frequently concerns of school parents and the following policy shall be carried out.

Tuberculosis:  (Revised 1991)

Tuberculosis skin testing is no longer routinely required for children in New Hampshire schools.  However, children in high risk categories, as defined by the Public Health Department, should be screened.  The Tuberculosis Division of the Public Health Department will be consulted if a high risk student enters the Rochester Schools and the Division's recommendations will be carried out.

If a child has had a Tuberculosis skin test prior to admission and that test is positive, clearance for admission will be obtained by the child's physician and the Tuberculosis Control Program of the Division of Public Health.

Pediculosis

The school nurse shall conduct periodic examinations of pupils' hair at appropriate times for Pediculosis.  Such examinations may be of an entire classroom or students selected at random.  Students found to have Pediculosis (head lice or nits) by the school nurse shall be excluded from school until adequate treatment is completed.  Parents will be required to notify the school nurse regarding what treatment measures have been taken to treat the Pediculosis.  The school nurse will inspect the student's hair after treatment.
