For 8 weeks this summer the City of Rochester will be providing
breakfast and lunch free of charge to all children.
This year’s program will run from June 25th thru August
17th.
The program will be closed on July 4th.
The meals are being made possible by a Federal fund that targets
low-income school areas. Based on school enrollment criteria, the
Federal Government has designated two open sites in the city.
Open sites allow any child, 18 years of age and younger, to come
to a designated site and receive a free breakfast and/or lunch.
Designated sites for this year’s program will be the William
Allen School and the Spaulding High School cafeterias.
The city’s food service provider, Chartwells, will be preparing
the meals at each site. Breakfast may contain cereal, yogurt, muffin,
or breakfast sandwich and lunch may contain a sandwich, salad, or
hot entrée. On select days meals will also include a special
treat such as cookies, fruit snacks, or chips. All meals must be
consumed at the distributed sites.
