Civics
and Government
Purpose:
The major goal of civics and government education is to enable students
to become responsible citizens who are committed to preserving and enhancing
American constitutional democracy. Central to this objective is the development
of students' knowledge relative to the purpose, structure, and functions
of government at all levels as well as an understanding of the political
process and the role of law. Equally important is the development of the
skills and motivation necessary to apply their knowledge through civic
participation.
