For a picture to be chosen as a Pulitzer Prize photo, it must convey a powerful message that provokes a strong response from its viewers. What is that message? What happened to produce this photograph? Why did the public respond to the photograph? For this assignment you will explore the "behind the scenes" events of a Pulitzer Prize picture of your choice.

 

GETTING STARTED:

1) First find out what a Pulitzer Prize is. Go to www.pulitzer.org.

2.) Go to http://www.newseum.org/pulitzer/shock/shock.htm to see some of the winners. Choose one Pulitzer Prize winning photograph (one per student).

3.) You will in a WORD document:

Describe what the Pulitzer Prize is: it's importance, the different prizes, the history. Describe your Pulitzer Prize photograph in detail. Research and write about the background behind the photo (using the photographer bio information and the audio). Research and write about the background behind the actual photo incident using google or other resources. "Answer the questions: What response did you have to the photograph and how do you think the public responded ?

Include the photo and photographer's name in your document.
