  • Developing greater understanding of your abilities and interests which are the basis for career decision-making.
  • Analyzing your academic strengths and weaknesses.
  • Interpreting test results so that you can compare yourself with others in your age group locally and nationally.
  • Securing career, educational, and military information.
  • Selecting subjects consistent with your abilities and future plans.
  • Learning about basic graduation requirements and your class credit standings.
  • Researching career opportunities and the world of work.
  • Planning your education after high school and obtaining knowledge of entrance requirements of post-secondary institutions and their applications procedures.
  • Securing application forms and sample test materials issued by the College Entrance Examination Board, the American Testing Program and other testing organizations.
  • Learning about opportunities for financial aid at post-secondary educational institutions and scholarships offered locally

The Guidance Department has a library of several hundred post-secondary school catalogs, DVD’s and videos including colleges, community colleges, trade and business schools, nursing schools and specialized schools (art, music, hairdressing, etc.). These materials may be borrowed at any time so that parents may also have access to them. We also have copious resources to help students with career, military, college and financial aid research.
