CTE Ambassadors Introduce Middle Schoolers to Exciting Career Pathways
On Thursday, October 12th, the CTE (Career Technical Education) Ambassadors from the R.W. Creteau Regional Technology Center went to the Rochester Middle School in the hope of igniting the spark of career exploration among young students. The event, aptly termed an "exploratory event," brought a new dimension to education by providing 8th graders with a hands-on opportunity to learn about 16 different CTE programs.
The event, which was a huge success, transformed the gymnasium into a bustling hub of career possibilities. Sixteen tables were set up, each representing a distinct career technical education program, and adorned with various artifacts to showcase the essence of each field. These interactive displays offered students an engaging glimpse into their potential futures, making learning about career paths not just informative but also fun.
The array of artifacts was impressive. At the Criminal Justice table, for instance, a fingerprinting tool was not only on display but also being used, giving students a taste of the forensic world. The cameras and lights at the Videography & Photography table showcased the creative realm of multimedia production, while at the Aviation table, an actual drone stole the show, introducing students to the exciting world of aviation technology.
The 8th graders were given the opportunity to rotate among the different program tables, allowing them to ask questions, engage with the materials, and interact with high school student who are well-versed in their respective fields. This hands-on approach is a valuable way to help students find their interests and passions early on, which can be instrumental in shaping their academic and career trajectories.
The event served as a precursor to a much-anticipated field trip in January when these same students will visit the high school to tour the R.W. Creteau Regional Technology Center. During this visit, they will have the chance to explore the 16 CTE programs in-depth and witness the impressive facilities and equipment up close.
Such events not only inform students about the vast array of career opportunities available but also inspire and motivate them to pursue their passions with a strong sense of purpose. By offering a direct connection between middle school students and their potential career paths, the CTE Ambassadors are contributing to the future of these young minds and the community as a whole. As the saying goes, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step," and this event is that vital first step for Rochester's aspiring professionals of tomorrow.
